Music by fan favorites, including Elvis Presley and Little Richard, put a groove in the step of residents dancing the boogie woogie and bunny hop at a recent Wildwood event.
The ’50s Sock Hop was Saturday at the Garfield Auditorium, 98 S. Warfield Ave. in Wildwood. It was hosted by the Wildwood Parks and Recreation Department and came at the request of residents. In addition to dancing, the event featured games and a costume contest.
“We have put on dances before, including the ’80s Prom and the annual father daughter dances, but we’ve received numerous requests for a ’50s-themed dance,” said Jillian Boyar, Wildwood recreation specialist. “I hope the guests enjoyed competing in the ‘Name That Tune’ contest, as well as showing off their jitterbug and hand jive skills.”
The venue was decorated with colorful music-themed decorations and had a diner photo backdrop. It felt complete with guests wearing their ’50s attire and twisting about the room.
